Trump endorsed Tommy Tuberville against Sessions in the Republican Senate runoff, praising Tuberville's loyalty and again attacking Sessions for recusing. Sessions responded that he had protected Trump from an investigation he could not lawfully control and continued presenting himself as a Trump supporter. Tuberville's victory followed Trump's intervention, but available evidence does not isolate the endorsement as the sole cause.
